What is a Knuckle joint?

The steering knuckle is a mechanical joint used to connect two rods that bear tension. This is necessary when a small amount of flexibility or angular movement is required. There will always be an axial force or a linear force.

Material usage of knuckle parts

Research on steering knuckles made of various materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, structural steel, magnesium and gray cast iron, and found that under a load condition of 50 KN, steering knuckles made of aluminum have the highest safety factor. . Therefore, aluminum joints are most suitable for 50 KN load conditions.

The knuckles used in some industries are usually made of cast iron and stainless steel. In recent decades, the rapid development of technology has led to a reduction in material costs and weight, thereby reducing accidents and improving safety. The knuckles can be cast, manufactured or forged.

Teflon can also be replaced by cast iron. Recent studies have proved that if composite materials are used instead of cast iron, it will have many advantages, for example, it is easy to manufacture joints with the highest safety and eco-friendliness.
